This year has been the year of many more runs than I’m used to at much longer distances – and so far it’s been fun. My first 8K happened on Thanksgiving, great day for a run. It was a bit chilly, but it was a great day to run 5 miles so I could prepare myself for two Thanksgivings.
I’ve still been trying to figure out how to properly pace myself with the help of others and my fitbit, which is on point sometimes and other times has no idea where I am or what I’m doing. The Lifetime Turkey Trot actually took place ON Lake Shore Drive, which was kind of cool, and kind of not so fun because of those hills – you don’t realize they’re a tad steeper when you’re just driving in a car.
Race Stats:
- Time: 0:46:17
- Overall: 839 out of 2,043
- Female: 367 out of 1,154
- Female 25-29: 133 out of 364
Since I had just come off the Hot Chocolate 15K a few weeks before, I didn’t search for an 8K Training Plan, I merely kept running 2 – 3 times a week at about 2 or 3 miles each session. This run was more about burning calories before eating a TON of food, so I could feel less guilty about it, which was fine with me.
Next run on the books? Rudolph Ramble! Hopefully it’s still only in the 20’s in December!
